Thomas’s path to medicine was shaped by personal experiences — witnessing inequities in rural healthcare, losing close friends, and nearly losing family members to chronic illness. These moments deepened his commitment to helping others and inspired him to use his skills in service of patients who need strong advocates in their care. Encouragement from a physician mentor further affirmed his calling to family medicine.
Before becoming a nurse practitioner, Thomas spent nearly 20 years as a nuclear safety engineer, analyzing and simulating complex systems. That training gave him a unique perspective on the human body, which he approaches as an interconnected system where every part matters. Combined with years of life experience and resilience through his own challenges, Thomas is able to connect with patients with genuine empathy and understanding.
His philosophy of care is evidence-based, holistic, and relationship-driven. He believes patients should always feel informed and empowered in their health decisions, and he strives to make each visit an opportunity for partnership and learning. Thomas’s patients often remark on his thoughtful approach and the way he takes time to explain care in a way that is easy to understand.
Outside of work, Thomas enjoys cycling and fishing, whether training for the next hill climb or spending time on the water. He also pursues his interests in research, programming in R, and exploring the role of psychoactive medications in palliative care.
We are excited to welcome Thomas to the Complex Care Center team, where he is now accepting new patients.
